Mozambique: Second heavy sands mine to start operating in Pebane soon

TZM Resources SA, a Chinese state-owned mining company, will start exploiting heavy mineral sands in Pebane district, in the central Mozambican province of Zambézia, as of next week.
The project is budgeted at 30 million US dollars and the concession is for 15 years.
According to Tuesday’s issue of the Maputo daily “Notícias”, citing the Administrator of Pebane District, Eduardo Vida, the company is ready to begin mining operations.

“The company will have two processing units. One will be at the locality of Maganha, in the Mulel administrative post, and the other one will be at Tomeia locality, in the Naburi administrative post”, he said.
The company, he added, has informed the local government that it has already hired 50 people, who will be working at the start of the project.
“The machines were installed during July and August”, he said, adding that “the government has authorized the operations, since the company has guaranteed that it will observe the necessary requirements, such as public consultation and an environmental impact study.”
