Zambia central bank raises key rate again as inflation above target
Carlos Alberto Fortes Mesquita was born on 25th of March 1962, in Gurué, Zambézia province. He served as Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources of Mozambique from March 2022 to January 2025.
Mesquita previously served as Minister of Industry and Commerce of the Republic of Mozambique. Prior to that, he served as the Minister of Transport and Communications from January 2015 to January 2020.
He graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 1987 at Eduardo Mondlane University, having subsequently done (in 1993) a postgraduate degree in Ports and Navigation from the International Maritime Academy in Netherlands.
Carlos Mesquita is a mechanical engineer by profession, he worked at the Mozambique Railways as an engineer between 1987 and 1998. From 1998 to 2015 he was the Managing Director of Coornelder Mozambique. He was the leader of the supervision group for the Macuti housing complex between 1993 and 2006. He served as honorary consul of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, in Beira, from 1999 to 2014. He served as the Board of Directors of the National Institute of the Navy (INAMAR), between 2007 and 2014. He assumed the position of Administrator of Beira Grain Terminal, SA, from 2009 to 2015.
In 2001, Mesquita was Director of Porto da Beira, in the company of Ports and Railways of Mozambique (CFM), at the time considered the best company of the 100 largest in Mozambique. Between 2000 and 2015, he received several merit awards in business management.
The mechanical engineer has been a member of the Frelimo party, and of the SIMPIOC-Estiva Association, in Beira, since 1998.
