Young man stabbed to death in Alto Maé, Maputo – report

A 23-year-old man was brutally murdered in Alto Maé, Maputo. The family says they are inconsolable and only want that justice is done, O País reports. Meanwhile, police today said that this case is already in an advanced stage of investigation and that patrols in the city are being reinforced.

The murder took place on the early hours of last Sunday when, in the company of a neighbour, the young man was returning home, coming from a night out at a bar somewhere in the neighbourhood of Alto Maé, in Maputo city.

Sources say that two sturdy men, who were being transported in a white car, immobilised the young man and took him to the car. Minutes later, they reportedly abandoned him and the young man could not resist the injuries to his neck.

“It is said that on that fateful day at 4:34 am my brother, Abdul Nasser, better known as Dulão, was talking to friends on Ahmed Sekou Toure Avenue, as it was a weekend. Meanwhile, as he was walking home with a neighbour, two young men appeared in a white car and pulled him. After they got him inside the car, they stuck a bayonet [sic] on him and [then] left his body on the public road,” said the witnesses, reports the victim’s older brother.

At the scene of the crime, surveillance cameras captured some images, which the family wants to present to the authorities as a means of hunting down the criminals.

In tears, the young man’s mother told O País that she wanted justice. “I only ask for justice, let them bring me the killers and I want to embrace them,” she cried in agony, leaving those present at the family home most saddened.

This happens at a time when there have been several reports of crimes between the Alto Maé and Malanga neighbourhoods. Two neighbourhoods of the city of Maputo currently viewed as not very calm.

Police says case is already in an advanced stage of investigation

Meanwhile, police in Maputo city said that the case of the young man killed by a stabbing in the neck in Alto Maé is in an advanced stage of investigation. PRM spokesman, Leonel Muchina, ensures that there are enough clues to reach the perpetrators.

The murder shocked the residents of Malanga, the neighbourhood where the deceased resided.

Police, who had not yet commented on the case, told O País today that the crime is already under investigation.

“We recorded this occurrence. This took place in the early hours of Sunday, when unknown individuals approached this citizen and, using blunt instruments, dealt the fatal blows. After we were reported the case, we have joined the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC), for a thorough investigation process because, as authorities, we are very interested in clarifying this case,” said Leonel Muchina.

Muchina also assured that the police patrol is being reinforced so as to combat the frequently reported criminality in Maputo city in general and in the neighbourhoods of Malanga and Alto Maé, where there are police stations nearby, in particular.

In less than two weeks, ‘O País’ reported at least two murders in the city of Maputo.
