The Mozambican prime minister said yesterday that meetings with the IMF and World Bank and US officials in Washington on Mozambique’s public debt had produced “encouraging results”, and called on people to stay calm.
“The government will soon share officially the results of this mission. But I am pleased to say that so far the meetings have produced encouraging results,” Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosario wrote on his Facebook page after a round of contacts in Washington to explain undisclosed state-guaranteed Ematum-related loans.
Pointing out that the current situation had its origins between 2013 and 2014, before the inauguration of the current government, the prime minister said he was aware that the revelations of the new loans are troubled to many Mozambicans.
