Three men have been trapped since the gold mine access tunnel collapsed on Tuesday on central Mozambique, the general inspector of the Mozambican Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy has told Lusa.
Obete Matine said the landfall occurred as the three men were mining for gold in Tsetsera district.
“The three men are known to be alive because there is a regular communication with them by mobile phone, and operations to reopen access to the mine and rescue them are under way,” he said.
Matine said that the mine was legal and operating under community concession.
Only three people were involved in the mine collapse because most of the area residents were attending a funeral.
