Mozambique: Portugal believes EU will strengthen support against terrorism
Ossufo Momade (in file CoM)
General Ossufo Momade has been elected president of Renamo, Mozambique’s largest opposition party, with 410 votes, followed by Elias Dhlakama with 238 votes and Manuel Bissopo with seven.
Prior to his election, Momade was interim coordinator of the Renamo Political Commission.
Momade replaces the party’s historic leader, Afonso Dhlakama, who died recently. During the civil war, Momade led Renamo in the northern part of the country.
