Police in Mozambique have detained three individuals and seized seven elephant tusks, which they suspect of being “extracted” in Gorongosa National Park, VOA Portugues reports.
Manica Police Command spokesman Mateus Mindu said the trio were detained in Vanduzi district on Sunday, October 6, while transporting the ivory tips to Beira city en route for Asia. The three detainees are suspected of belonging to a larger group of trophy traffickers.
This is the third ivory-related arrest in Manica this year. A total of 17 tusks have been seized, and five persons detained.
