South African petrochemical company Sasol wants to expand its hydrocarbon exploration areas in Inhambane province.
To this end, the multinational is negotiating a third license with the Mozambican government.
Sasol started operations in Mozambique in 2004 and has a central natural gas processing unit in the Pande and Temane fields in Inhambane province.
In these fields, the gas is transported by pipeline to neighbouring South Africa, but with supply points for industrial use in the country, including electricity generation.
With a focus on the new development in the hydrocarbon industry, in particular the production of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Sasol designed an expansion plan for a period of 10 years in the two existing license areas and in a third license area in negotiation with the Mozambican Government.
It is a license that covers an area of over 500, 000 hectares.
According to the report of the final environmental impact assessment of the Sasol expansion project, requested by the company itself, work would include the acquisition of seismic data, construction of temporary and permanent access roads to well sites and temporary encampments for workers , drilling of 91 wells, construction of flow lines and collecting stations for well tests, ongoing maintenance activities in support of project infrastructures and improved oil and gas recovery.
This Monday, Sasol has published a request for expressions of interest for technical design services for engineering projects.
The plan is to create a processing unit for Liquefied Petroleum Gas and Liquid Chemicals.
