Mozambique: President Chapo visits Eswatini

With armed confrontation occurring daily in central Mozambique, Frelimo members called for a public demonstration for peace in the country yesterday, Wednesday 24th.
According to the organizers, it was to be a mass event, but only a hundred or so people joined the march through Maputo to Peace Square (Praça da Paz).
“We want peace back. We want to appeal to our brothers who insist on living in the bush to come join us to develop Mozambique,” the protesters chanted.
While the march wended along its way, people from religious organizations, political parties, and civil society gathered elsewhere to reflect on peace and stability in the country.
Catholic Archbishop of Beira Claudio Zuana described the situation in the country, saying: “Peace in Mozambique has its enemies, those whose interests eventually favoured the war.”
Injustice, political intolerance, social exclusion and lack of transparency are among the causes of the current instability according to Archbishop Zuana, setting a substantial agenda for the government.
From reflections like these emerges one of the times’ main requirements: the need for a more vigorous action by society to persuade politicians towards a solution.
