Nyusi discusses investments with head of AfDB

Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi met with that chairperson of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina, on Saturday in Addis Ababa, where Nyusi attended the heads of state summit of the African Union.
Asked what the two men had discussed, Adesina said Nyusi “explained to me his priorities for Mozambique, which include, at the top of the list agriculture, infrastructures, tourism and energy. These are the areas we discussed”.
He added that Nyusi had presented Mozambique’s hydropower potential, “but we also dealt with the potential for producing electricity from Mozambique’s resources of natural gas and coal”.
Adesina said that Mozambique is a country of extreme importance for the Southern African Development Community (SADC), particularly because of the role that Beira and Nacala ports can play in regional integration.
Adesina said he had promised Nyusi support from the AfDB for investments in agriculture and in energy.
Since cooperation began between Mozambique and the AfDB in 1977, AfDB funding for over 200 projects in Mozambique has reached about 2.3 billion US dollars, according to a recent statement made in Maputo by the AfDB representative in Mozambique, Joseph Ribeiro.
