"Some actions in defence of sovereignty" may violate rights, says Chapo
Mozambican Parliament Seats
Members of the Mozambican parliament have given mixed reactions to President Filipe Nyusi’s annual report to the House delivered today.
For Galiza Matos Jr., the spokesman of the parliamentary group of Frelimo, the report “was an exhaustive speech and mirrored what constitutes the reality of the country.”
Matos Jr says there are challenges across the country, but “one should see it as stable”.
However, Ivone Soares from Renamo party argued that the report “was an exciting [but] unrealistic poetic text. In terms of reality, it was far from meeting the expectations of national citizens.”
According to Soares, the standard of living remains very high for most Mozambicans, because “there are citizens who cannot afford to buy basic products”.
Fernando Bismarque, the spokesman for the parliamentary group of the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM), said “I do not know if the President has the notion of the national reality. We are not in a stable situation. Just look at the situation of Cabo Delgado!” and added that President Nyusi was “the main loser of the fight against corruption”.
