The approximately US$20 million, (1,400 million meticais) approved by the World Bank for rebuilding infrastructure in Cabo Delgado post-cyclone Kenneth, is already available, Rádio Moçambique reports.
This fact emerged on Thursday during a public consultation meeting on resilient emergency reconstruction post Cyclones Idai and Kenneth in the city of Pemba.
The amount is part of the US$210 million that the World Bank will disburse to support the reconstruction, over a period of five years, of about 15,000 houses destroyed by the cyclone in the central and northern parts of the country.
The northern-region coordinator of the Idai and Kenneth Post-Cyclone Reconstruction Office, Iva Langa, says that the needs assessment process in Cabo Delgado is at an advanced stage, and that disbursement and application of funds is expected to start in next two months.
“A social and environmental assessment framework will be created to make sure we disburse the interventions without increasing disparity,” Langa said.
