The Mozambican police said on Tuesday that they have the situation under control in Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique, where armed attacks have been taking place since October 2017 in remote villages in the province.
“Order and public security in Cabo Delgado continue to be guaranteed by the Mozambique Defence Armed Forces,” police spokesman, Inácio Dina, said without confirming the last attack in the Nangade district, near the border with Tanzania, where nine people were killed.

According to local sources heard by Lusa, in addition to killing nine people, the group torched 50 homes and stole animals.
Dina did not confirm this information, saying he would comment on this at “a timely occasion.”
The attack took place at around 11 p.m. (2 hours earlier in Lisbon) in the Chikaua village, near the Tanzania border.
The group used machetes to kill eight people and another one was found burnt to death after the attackers torched homes.
According to the same sources, part of the population fled the village during the attack and there is no evidence to identify the attackers.

Dina did not want to talk about the departure of the people, reaffirming that authorities are to give a press conference to about it.
“What we assure people is that the police and the military have been on site from the first hour to prevent these situations from gaining greater proportions,” he said.
At the beginning of the month, six men, who had gone out into the woods in Palma district to hunt were found dead showing signs they had been attacked with machetes.
About 100 people have died in the past year, including residents, alleged aggressors and members of security forces according to official figures.
The wave of attacks began in Mocímboa da Praia when with two police officers were killed by an armed group which included members of a Muslim group that occupied the town’s mosque that preached insurgency against the state which resulted in some friction with the residents over the last two years.
After that, the attacks have always taken place away from paved roads and outside the factory zone and other oil company infrastructures that exploit natural gas in the Afungi peninsula, Palma district.
