As a result of the attack, part of the residents of Chicuaia Velha village and surrounding area fled to the neighbouring Republic of Tanzania, in search of security.
At least 12 people were killed in the attack on Thursday night in Nangade district, north of Cabo Delgado. The attackers burned about 40 houses.
According to witnesses, the attackers raided the village of Chicuaia Velha at night yesterday, killing 12 people, women and children included.
The men had no firearms and used machetes and knives on their victims. They set fire to the houses whose owners refused to open the door, and some people were charred to death.
As a result of the attack, part of the residents of Chicuaia Velha village and surrounding area fled to the neighbouring Republic of Tanzania, in search of security.
This is the third attack in less than a month in the north of Cabo Delgado, with a balance of 20 dead and more than 50 houses burned.
Contacted by O País, Nangade’s administrator said he could not advance data on the attack, supposedly because he was in a meeting.
In Pemba, the Provincial Police Command has not yet reacted to this attack.
