The Ministry of Culture and Tourism is announcing the results of work and research aimed at having Mozambique’s Mapiko dance tradition entered into Unesco’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list in Maputo this morning.
The Mapiko candidacy follows on the Nyau-Gule Wankhulu and Timbila traditions being proclaimed Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2006.
A brochure and DVD have been produced to bolster the effort to have Mapiko dance recognised by UNESCO over the short to medium term.
Today’s ceremony, conducted by Minister Eldevina Materula, was set for 9:30 a.m., in the meeting room of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, located at Avenida 24 de Julho, nr. 140, and was be attended by the United States Ambassador to Mozambique, among other guests.
