The Economic Climate Indicator (ECI) of Mozambique retreated in September for the third consecutive month, the National Statistics Institute (INE) announced on Monday.
The indicator stood at 93.6 points after registering 96.8 (August), 98.2 (July) and 99.8 (June).
The decrease “continued to be due to the unfavourable assessment of employment prospects and demand”, according to the bulletin of the Mozambican INE.
“The downward trend of the ECI was due to the continuously negative appreciation of confidence in all the business branches targeted by the survey, with the exception of the trade sector, which increased its confidence compared to the previous quarter”, the institute added.
The Confidence and Economic Climate indicators are a monthly publication on the economic situation in Mozambique, compiled on the basis of an economic survey also conducted every month by INE to companies in the non-financial sector.
“The study expresses the opinion of economic agents on the evolution and outlook of their activity, particularly on employment, demand, orders, prices, production, sales and activity limitations”, the Mozambican INE explained.
