The Minister of National Defence, Cristóvão Chume, granted this Monday, August 26, 2024, a courtesy audience to the Managing Director of Eni Rovuma Basin, Marica Calabrese, Marica Calabrese, in a meeting that served to share the status of Eni’s activities, as well as to review partnership actions between the two entities.
On the occasion, the Minister of National Defence thanked Eni for its support to the communities and for ensuring security in Cabo Delgado, and reiterated the ministry’s willingness to continue cooperating with the oil multinational.
In another development, Cristovão Chume gave assurances that the Armed Forces of Defence of Mozambique (FADM) and allied forces remain firm, with a view to mitigating outbreaks of sporadic terrorist activities in Cabo Delgado, with a focus on the Macomia district, considered the epicentre of the violence.
In turn, the Managing Director of Eni Rovuma Basin, Marica Calabrese, reiterated her willingness to discuss with the Ministry of National Defence (MDN) issues related to Coral Norte, where natural gas exploration is expected in Area 4.
Marica Calabrese also stressed that Eni would continue to provide support to communities in Cabo Delgado and beyond.
The partnership with Eni in the Rovuma Basin is considered strategic. As a result of it, the country is already exporting liquefied and condensed natural gas from the Coral Sul floating platform anchored in Area 4 of the Rovuma basin.
