Beluluane Industrial Park (BIP), in Maputo province’s Boane district, will invest US$100 million over the next ten years in the creation of more than 200 companies, which will in turn generate more than 20,000 jobs.
The figures were revealed yesterday by the director-general of Beluluane Industrial Park, Onório Boane, during the donation of computer equipment to the Maputo Provincial Executive Council.
The equipment, valued at 1.5 million meticais, consists of eight laptop and two desktop computers, with peripherals, Internet and payment of the monthly fees for the duration of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Beluluane Industrial Park and the provincial government.
The more-than 200 companies cited by Onório Boane will find a home in the remaining 400 hectares still vacant in the area over which the Industrial Park holds land title (DUAT).
Boane took the opportunity to announce that Beluluane Industrial Park plans, in the near future, to set up a new park in Moma, Nampula province, where heavy sands are being exploited.
Meanwhile Beluluane Industrial Park intends, its director-general said, to become more and more a reference company in addressing the concerns of the Maputo Provincial Executive.
In turn, Júlio Parruque, Governor of Maputo Province, who witnessed the signing, said that Beluluane Industrial Park had fully responded to the concerns of the population by, for example, currently employing 7,000 local workers.
“The Memorandum of Understanding between the Maputo Provincial Executive Council and the Beluluane Industrial Park is the formalisation of a partnership which has already been materialised through several actions,” Governor Parruque said.
The governor cited awareness-raising and mobilisation actions among residents in the fight against Covid-19, embodied in the availability of preventative materials.
Also of note are the promotion and sponsorship of paid pre-professional internships for young people in Maputo province, an initiative that adds value to Provincial Executive Council’s efforts to reduce unemployment levels.
“We are very grateful for this gesture by the Beluluane Industrial Park, which is for us a clear demonstration of the private sector strengthening our institutional capacity as a decentralized governance body,” he added.
Governor Parruque noted that Maputo province, as home to the largest industrial park in the country, “challenges its repositioning, in the sense of taking responsibility for being one of the largest contributors to the country’s economy”.
