The Mozambican authorities have arrested an alleged informant for the islamist terrorists operating in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, according to a report in Wednesday’s issue of the independent newssheet “Carta de Moçambique”.
The 30 year old man (who was not named in the report) was arrested on the island of Ibo at the weekend, after he was denounced by local people who did not know him, and wondered what he was doing on Ibo.
He was spotted disembarking from a boat, with a map of Ibo. He was also carrying a list of goods he was intending to buy on the island. Challenged by local residents, he could not give a clear explanation of the purpose of his visit. Suspecting that he might be working for the terrorists, they turned him over to the authorities.
Dozens of houses were set on fire and food items looted first. There are indications that one of the vessels they stole is motorized and was used to anchor the other 5.They escape across the high seas and shores of #Ibo or #Mocimboa da Praia districts

“Carta de Moçambique” recalls that, during a recent attack on Matemo island, which is also part of Ibo district [in the Quirimbas archipelago]t, the terrorists left a message boasting that they could attack Ibo island at any moment.
The paper also reports that the terrorists have established a spy network by infiltrating informers into the hundreds of thousands of displaced people fleeing from the jihadist raids, and by recruiting local prostitutes, regarded as a useful source of information on military movements.
“Carta de Moçambique” also claims that, while the town of Mocímboa da Praia was in islamist hands last year, the jihadists were resupplied with weapons and food carried by a light plane (which presumably landed at Mocímboa airstrip).
The plane was allegedly flown by someone the paper describes as “a foreign woman, very well known in the international terrorist circuits, trained to fly aircraft at low altitudes”.
This story has supposedly been confirmed by captured terrorists who told the Mozambican armed forces, and their Rwandan allies, that this foreign woman “is one of the key pieces in the terrorist logistics”.
This intriguing story lacks key details, such as the nationality of the mysterious woman, and where the plane and the weapons were flown from.
