The 22 Mozambican students, who had been evacuated from Sudan to Ethiopia, arrived in Maputo city on Saturday, April 30, 2023.
The students are now in Mozambique, after evacuation from Sudan, where armed violence has worsened in recent weeks. Reports speak are of suffering to get out of Khartoum, where the war has not stopped, despite multiple truces.

The feeling is one of relief for having arrived in Mozambique, after days under crossfire.
Leaving Sudan was almost an impossible mission describes Nuro Alfredo.
“Many exits were closed. The most difficult thing was to leave Sudan, the country’s capital, that was the hardest. We had to stay at the university for three days waiting to find out how to leave. The carriers themselves were also very difficult, because they didn’t know how to get out, they preferred to park their means of transportation.”
The Mozambicans evacuated from Sudan – the newly arrived 22 students and a priest who decided to settle in Cairo, Egypt – left everything behind.
“We just left, just like that. In war nobody is prepared, things happen suddenly.”
There is a sigh of relief with their arrival in the country, something which the Director of the National Institute for Mozambican Communities Abroad, INACE, Armando Muiuane, does not hide.
“We expected them to arrive on Wednesday of last week, but unfortunately due to immigration procedures in Ethiopia it was not possible.”
The Mozambican students returning from Sudan can travel home to their different provinces of origin at any time.
