Mozambique's Marco Mendonça wins prestigious theatre revelation award in Portugal
Moreira Chonguiça’s fourth album ‘MP Reloaded’, released in 2013, has been nominated for the Best African Album award at the Just Plain Folk Music Awards in the United States.
The award ceremony for this category, in which Moreira is the only African representative, will take place next August 5 in Los Angeles, where the winners of all 60 categories will be announced.
Announcing the news, the weekly ‘Sábado’ notes that two songs – from the albums ‘Outupam’ and ‘Ashanti Part2 Reloaded’ – were also nominated in the African Song category.
The others nominated for ‘African Album’ category are Mark Stone, percussionist from the US, Afro Jersey from New York, and Drumhand, a mix of West African drumming rhythms from Toronto, Canada.
‘MP Reloaded’ is a remix of songs taken from the albums “The Journey’ and ‘Citizen of the World’.
In addition to ‘MP Reloaded’, Moreira Chonguiça has recorded five other albums: ‘The Journey’ (2005), ‘Citizen of the World’ (2009), ‘Khanimambo ‘(2011) and ‘M & M: Moreira Chonguiça & Manu Dibango’ (2017) in studio, plus a live album recorded at the Polana Serena Hotel in 2015.
