Young entrepreneurs in Mozambique have presented digital solutions for working from home to state institutions and bodies at a meeting organised by the Mozambique-German Cultural Centre.
The event organised under the aegis of the Mozambique-Germany Cultural Centre made space for young Mozambicans wanting to convince private companies and state institutions to use platforms such as WhatsApp to save time and money by facilitating interactions without leaving home.
These products will help clients like the Mozambique Chamber of Commerce and the Municipal Council of Maputo address the “new normal” of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Lídia Siquela, for example, created software for automated interaction between the Chamber and clients, using WhatsApp.
“Here we have an example in which the user sends a message to the company’s WhatsApp. This message is sent to the server that handles the message and generates an automated return to the sender of the message – in this case, the user. This message is answered in the form of text, image and document in less than one second,” she explained.
Elcídio Bila, another young creator, exhibited “WhatsApp Business”, a system which aims to reduce time and stress for the system manager.
“We are intending to better structure the contents of the WhatsApp Business API, helping the roll-out and dissemination of content and understanding, by week or by month, how contents should best be ordered,” he explained.
Innovation
The Mozambique Chamber of Commerce, one of the clients, liked what it saw and Jaime Cuambe, a member of the Chamber, is sure that these youngsters’ ideas will change how the institution operates.
“Each of these proposals will add value to the ambition, vision and challenges of the Mozambique Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber wants to be more visible, and here finds the solution,” he stressed.
Other young people came up with ideas for a cultural agenda for the municipality of Maputo. The Mozambican capital has an intense cultural dynamic, and artists can use the platform to showcase their work, creator Sérgio Sambo says.
“What happens is that artists as well as event promoters will be able to place their events on the app for the public to see, and sell tickets via the same platform,” he explained.
Digital solutions for tourism
The Municipal Council of Maputo and its Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Isabel Macie, wants arts in the capital to return to profitability.
“And we also want this platform to facilitate everything relating to the management of culture in our city – to make it easier for the municipality itself to be a vehicle for promoting arts in our city,” she said.
“But we want this platform, by promoting the arts, above all to help artists profit, and for the platform to be self-sustainable,” she added.
