The sounds of the new Classical Music Season are already echoing in the ears of concert-goers. After the launch of the event last week, the Xiquitsi project will initiate the first series this year at the UEM Cultural Centre.
The chords will begin to sound from 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at a concert to be held at the Cultural Centre of Eduardo Mondlane University in partnership with Maputo City Council as part of the city’s 130th anniversary celebrations.
The inaugural session presents Mozart ‘s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik”, Vivaldi’s, “Concerto for Two Violins and Strings in A Minor”, and Hortêncio Langa and Mia Couto with “Cidade Menina”, among others treats.
But the first night of Xiquitsi has more. Estevão Chissano, a student on the project, will premiere his first musical work – a Mass with Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus and Agnus Dei.
Other Xiquitsi students will also participate, with Yannick Jafar and António Nhancale on violin accompanied by Xixel Langa (voice), Kika Materula (conductor), Carlos Pereira (choral direction), the Xiquitsi orchestra and choir, and the groups Santa Cecília, Presbyterian Khovo Youth Society and the Maria Rivier Youth Choir.
