As the result of a tip-off from locals, a 33-year-old Mozambican has been arrested in Tete for the possession and attempted sale of 29 ivory tusks, police have announced .
The man was detained in Tete city’s Matundo neighbourhood. It is thought that the 29 tusks in his possession come from elephants slaughtered in Zumbo.
The man was intending to sell the tusks at 2,500 meticais per kilogram (US$41.2 at current exchange rates), a spokesperson for the Police Provincial Command in Tete said.
