Malawian Transport minister Malison Ndau has said four government ministries are having an emergency meeting this evening to chart the way forward on the insecurity of the Beira road in Mozambique.
Ndau said he will be chairing the meeting that will be attended by cabinet ministers and officials from his ministry, Trade and Industry, Foreign Affairs and Defence.
“We are concerned that five trucks have been burnt so far, we have lost lots of fuel therefore we want to strategise on how best to handle the situation,” he said.
He said the government has already told transporters to avoid the Tete to Beira road and use another route which he said is 103 kilometres longer but much safer. ]
Ndau said the government is in touch with the Mozambican authorities on the matter.
