The Majescoral choir is giving a concert entitled “Singing for Peace” at the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre (CCFM) in Maputo this evening.
Today’s performance, put together by maestro Augusto Gamaliel and starting at 8:30 p.m., is intended hasten the establishment of peace in Mozambique through choral singing. Renowned Mozambican musician Roberto Chitsondzo and Rodália Silvestre will join them onstage.
‘Singing for Peace’ is divided into two parts. The first part will showcase themes with messages of love, peace and harmony as a way of repudiating the political and military tension in the country. The second half will include eight pieces which address national socio-cultural dynamics and invite reflection on interpersonal relationships.
Majescoral hopes the concert will spur society to reflect on peace and harmony as vehicles for the development of the nation, as well as finding solutions to problems without jeopardising the integrity of citizens.
Founded 22 years ago by Antonio Faustino Chirute, Majescoral (then the Maputo Jazz Spiritual Choir) is the oldest choral group in the country. In 2013 the group released its first original album entitled “Le Va Vumani Kaya”, consisting of songs by Faustino Chirute and Ricardo Cândido.
