The new Labour Law, coming into force from this Tuesday, should return to the Council of Ministers within days, and later to parliament, for amendments and subsequent republication.
The aim is to remedy inconsistencies detected after the law’s publication. The government and private sector however consider that, despite its flaws, the implementation of the new law will not compromise the operation of companies.
The need for amendments was confirmed in Maputo a few days ago by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MTSS) and the Mozambique Chamber of Commerce (CCM) during a meeting to reflect on the changes made to the instrument.
According to the general secretary of the Mozambican Chamber of Commerce (CCM), Teresa Muenda, the new law boosts labour relations in the context of a rapidly growing market.
