The Mapai dam, in the Gaza province district of the same name, will be built in the next five years, President of the Republic Filipe Nyusi announced at a rally this morning in the southern part of the country.
Nyusi said a detailed study of the project had already been launched.
In response to concerns expressed by the local population, President Nyusi also reported that the tender process for a 190-kilometre stretch completing the Guija-Chicualacuala road, where work was interrupted in 2014 due to lack of funds, had been launched.
The president is today meeting representatives of civil society and will also meet public officials as part of his two-day visit to Gaza province.
