Frelimo says it is working to recapture municipalities under opposition management, Radio Mozambique reports.
So said Frelimo representative Verónica Macamo in Maputo this Monday on the sidelines of the party’s registration in the electoral race.
The National Elections Commission has appealed to political parties to register early in order to prevent them from being excluded from the race for irregularities, but Macamo said that Frelimo is still not ready to announce its candidates for the October 10 municipal elections
Radio Moçambique meanwhile says that Renamo will announced its party list in July.
Maintaining “secrecy over ‘heads of lists'”
Meanwhile, O País reports that, after the beginning of parties registration began last Friday, Frelimo, via candidacy delegate Veronica, signed up this Monday at the National Elections Commission for the 5th municipal elections due on the 10th of October.
O País cites Macamo as saying that Frelimo will present its list of candidates for mayor [head of list] before the time limit, adding that “expectations are high and victory must happen in all municipalities”.
Frelimo is the second to register, the first being the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM) party last Friday. Renamo is expected to register today, Tuesday.
Registration of political parties ends on the 29th of this month, with presentation of candidates taking place from July 5 to 27.
