The announcement of investments and forecast of the start of Rovuma Basin natural gas production in 2023 is leaving Cabo Delgado business owners worried, because, they say, so far they do not know how they could benefit, and therefore how to prepare.
Businessman Assif Osman says there is a lack of communication about when and how things will happen and how the participation of local business is being assured.
Osman said that local business people are not in a position to take advantage of mega-projects because such projects are outside the usual run of business in the community.
“What we can promise is that, even if we are not prepared right now, we have the skills to prepare ourselves. But, for that to happen, we need concrete information,” he says
Osman adds that, with the latest round of murders in Cabo Delgado still unsolved, business people, especially foreigners intending to invest in the province, have been expressing concern.
