The Mozambican Medical Association is mourning the passing of former chairman Eugénio Zacarias, who died last night after a long illness.
Eugénio Zacarias was born in Beira and was Professor of Legal Medicine at the Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM).
During his term at the helm of the Ordem dos Médicos de Moçambique, from 2014 to the first half of 2019, Eugénio Zacarias shook the Mozambican health sector with his determination to defend the quality and regulation of the profession in the country.
In 2016, Eugénio Zacarias imposed a uniform certification exam on all medical graduates for them to be considered doctors and to be able to practice medicine in Mozambique.
