President Nyusi made a surprise visit to military positions in Cabo Delgado at the weekend, encouraging Defence and Security Forces stationed there to remain firm in defending Mozambique’s territory and sovereignty, Radio Moçambique reports.
In his capacity as commander-in-chief, the head of state sought to acquaint himself with the activities of the various Defence and Security Forces units involved in combating the gangs attacking the population in various Cabo Delgado districts.
President Nyusi said that the defence of sovereignty was a permanent mandate, especially when, as now, threats were manifesting in so many different areas.
“The mission to defend the homeland never ends. The enemies of sovereignty have always existed and will always exist. Therefore, it is a permanent mission and more so due to the way in which current threats are manifested in societies. All countries go through this scenario. We will defend this country until the last Mozambican, until the last soldier, the last police officer. This is our mission, because this is the land that has seen us born, it is on this land that we live, it is in this land that we raise our children and create wealth for the future,” the president said.
In his interaction with the Defence and Security Forces, the commander-in-chief talked about the state of the national economy and called for vigilance against anyone fomenting division between Mozambicans.
