The rehabilitation of the road between the main village in the district of Marracuene to Macaneta in Maputo province may be completed by the end of July this year.
Completion will mitigate the inconvenience suffered by Macaneta residents and commuters, especially in the rainy season.
Work was scheduled for completion this April, and REVIMO chairman Angelo Lichanga says that the contractor has carried out around 65% of the work.
At this stage, interventions included the depositing of new foundations the length of the nine-kilometre stretch and the laying of about three kilometres of pavement in the first section.
According to Angelo Lichanga, the extension of the deadline is due to the complexity of the task on Section 2 of the road, from the bridge over the Incomati River to the Macaneta roundabout.
The site is prone to flooding, and remedies include removing inadequate footing to a height of 60 centimetres, and its replacement with material that will guarantee the quality of the work. Drains for the speedy evacuation of water are also being installed.
Laying of the pavement surface will begin in the next few days.
