President Filipe Nyusi today appointed Manuel Guilherme Júnior to the post of rector of Eduardo Mondlane University, the oldest higher education institution in the country.
Manuel Guilherme Júnior will replace Orlando Quilambo, who has held the position since 2010 and leaves the position after the conclusion of two terms, as established by the institution’s regulations.
The new dean was chosen from a shortlist of three names proposed by the University Council of the Eduardo Mondlane University, as established by law.
Graduated in law by the UEM itself, Manuel Guilherme Júnior has acted as the university’s director of the cooperation office and professor at its Faculty of Law.
According to a note from the Presidency, the Mozambican head of state also reappointed Marcelino Marta Liphola to the position of vice-rector of Universidade Lúrio, another public institution, and appointed Fred Charles Nelson another vice-rector at the same institution.
In addition to the appointments to positions at the two public universities, Filipe Nyusi appointed Frelimo deputy Francisco Ussene Mucanheia as Counsellor to the President of the Republic.
