Countries sharing the Zambezi River basin discuss the construction of water infrastructure

Countries sharing the Zambezi River basin are assessing, starting today, the level of mobilization and implementation of resources for the construction of infrastructure along the river’s course.
This is the eleventh meeting of the ministers of the Zambezi River Basin Watercourse Commission, which includes eight member countries, namely Angola, Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, as well as Namibia, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, known as ZAMCOM.
Among the constructions planned along this watercourse, the highlight is the Mpanda Nkua dam to be built in the province of Tete, Mozambique, and the rehabilitation of the Kariba and Betoca dams in Zambia.
The National Director of Water Resources at the Ministry of Public Works, Housing, and Water Resources, Messias Macie, emphasized that the meeting will assess the level of cooperation for the sustainability of the Zambezi River resources, taking into account Mozambique’s downstream geographical location.
