Two criminals still at large shot and injured a Chinese national in the prime are of Chimoio, capital of the province of Manica, early on Wednesday. The incident occurred less than 500 meters from the official residence of the governor of Manica province.
Eyewitnesses living in the same building as the victim told the AIM that the criminals approached the victim on the stairs leading to the building as she returned from work.
Another citizen of Chinese nationality, presumed to be the husband of the victim, was inside the house.
The woman was hit in the head by one of the two bullets fired by the men, who then fled in a light vehicle with the victim’s handbag, witnesses said.
“The Chinese couple arrived by car. We also saw a light vehicle stopping. Two men came out and went after them. Minutes later we heard two shots and the thugs came out and got in the car with a purse in their hand,” the witnesses said.
The victim is currently receiving medical care at a private healthcare facility in Chimoio. She is said to be out of danger.
Police are working on the case and expect to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Folha de Maputo reports that violent crimes using firearms have fallen off in Chimoio city and in the province of Manica in general in recent months, thanks to the work carried out by the police.
