The African continent can only experience rapid development with the silencing of guns.
Such was the message Mozambique’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Verónica Macamo, delivered this Sunday at the 33rd Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
“We know that the reason we’re not developed enough, or not as much as we’d like, is because, effectively, guns have prevented us. Meaning that we have human and financial resources that could be channelled into development activities towards growth and economic development to create the well-being of our peoples.”
“This has an intrinsic relationship with one of the emblematic goals of the 2063 agenda, which is to effectively end conflicts in Africa. That is this year’s motto, and we think that it will be a good call for attention, because we will all be reflecting on the topic, and this will be very fruitful,” she said.
The Mozambican delegation to the summit is headed by Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, representing President Nyusi.
The 33rd Summit of the African Union Heads of State and Government takes place under the motto, “Silencing the Guns: Creating Conducive Conditions for Africa’s Development”.
