Mozambique: HCB denies story of 250 million euro debt - AIM
Anadarko Mozambique has donated equipment valued at US$100,000 to the engineering and geological sciences laboratory of Pemba’s Lúrio University (UniLúrio).
The equipment, delivered to Cabo Delgado last Friday, will be used for geological, civil engineering and mechanical research, as well as to support the training of teachers, researchers and students.
The equipment donated includes industrial thermometers, welding machines and generators, binocular magnifiers, micrometers, projectors, tool bags, fingerprint sensors and oscilloscopes.
At the handover, Anadarko president John Peffer said that Anadarko’s social responsibility perspective mandated support for training and education, and that the company had already established partnerships with the Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo and other institutions.
“We try to bring Mozambicans into our workforce, either directly or through subcontractors, so that in time they can take control in the technical field and see these features developed with their participation,” he said.
Lúrio University rector Francisco Noa said that, by providing direct access to relevant technologies, the donation would have a multiplier effect.
“We will honour this gesture as best we can, by producing professionals and science of the highest quality and in so doing contributing to the development of our country,” he said.
Noa pointed out that UniLúrio was less than eight years old and therefore still faced many challenges, but could count on partners like Andarko to overcome limitations regarding access to equipment.
“More than 400 students and teachers will benefit from this equipments and will, in turn, see their progress accelerate. I have no doubt that this donation will have a multiplier effect, through the quality in classrooms and laboratories which will naturally follow,” he said.
