Frelimo Secretary-General Roque Silva on Tuesday urged the party youth wing to become involved in maintaining peace in all areas of instability in the country, including terrorism in the north and attacks by armed men in the centre, O País reports.
Roque Silva addressed the party youth wing at the Frelimo Party School in Matola on Tuesday morning during the opening of the VI Ordinary Session of the Central Committee of the Mozambican Youth Organization (OJM).
Silva repudiated the terrorist attacks in the north and the attacks by the Renamo military junta in the centre, calling on the youth to unite to solve the problems facing the country.
Silva also appealed to young people not to be fooled by empty promises, instead adopting engagement and the spirit of unity, denouncing criminals and promoting campaigns to support the displaced in Cabo Delgado.
The politician challenged the OJM to be guided by creative and proactive leadership and not to allow terrorists to manipulate the populace.
“We cannot allow these terrorists to devalue the work of the government and the defence forces and take away our sovereignty,” he said.
The VI Ordinary Session of the OJM Central Committee precedes the session of the Frelimo Central Committee, convened by the party’s Political Commission, which will take place on the weekend of 22-23 May.
