The Civil Identification Department (DNIC) is reinforcing mechanisms to curb schemes for the fraudulent acquisition of Identity Cards and Birth Certificates, announcing that those involved will be held criminally accountable.
The falsification of documents involving employees, national or foreign users continues to pose a serious problem for the Civil Identification department, which has condemned the issuing of false birth certificates by some branches.
Without giving the names of those involved, the DNIC spokesman says that measures were underway to neutralise employees identified as taking part in such schemes.
In the past few months, three officials have been expelled, three have been arrested and another 13 are being charged in cases aimed at combating corruption within the institution.
The DNIC says it is continuing to work towards reducing the time taken for identity cards to be issued, in the face of public complaints about failings in the delivery of the documents.
