Mozambique: FACIM 2019 opens

Twenty-two countries had already confirmed their participation in the 55th edition of the Maputo International Fair (FACIM) when it opened today in Ricatla, Marracuene district, Maputo province.

The fair, which takes place under the motto “Mozambique: Widening the market, promoting investment and fostering partnerships”, was opened by President of the Republic, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi.

The head of state also conducted the Exporter’s Day ceremony, which awards the top exporters and investors.

The motto of this year’s edition of FACIM highlights the promotion of national exports, with a view to maximising opportunities for access to international markets.

A source linked to the organisation said that more countries had registered interest in participating in the event, which runs until 1 September, including the UK and New Zealand. Everything was ready for a smooth start, he said, and the exhibition space was already full.

“At this point, we don’t have space for any more exhibitors. There are 20,000 square metres of covered pavilions, and there is an uncovered part where exhibitors can also showcase their products and services,” the source said.
Today will be dedicated to exhibitors only, with the public allowed to visit from tomorrow.

As has been the case in recent years, the exhibition will be open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. during the week and until 7:00 p.m. on the weekend. Tickets are 150 meticais for the general public and parking is 100 meticais.

“Our expectation is that, counting on what has been the massive participation of the provinces, we expect about 1,800 national and 200 foreign exhibitors, making 2,000 exhibitors in total,” a management source said.

This being an international fair, almost all representative areas of the economy were present, he added, including agriculture, fisheries, construction, services, public works, mining and energy, technology and communications, among others

As well as England and New Zealand, Germany, France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, South Korea, India, China, Brazil, Turkey, Indonesia, Thailand, Belarus, Macau , South Africa, Botswana Tanzania, Zambia, Mauritius, Argentina and Egypt were also involved.
