Work on expanding the Corumana dam, in Moamba district, Maputo province, will be completed by November, according to the dam director, Calisto Mabota.
According to Mabota, the dam currently holds about 210 million cubic metres of water, which could rise to 1,200 million cubic metres if required.
“We hope that, once the floodgates are in place, we can store more water so that when we get to a time like this – the beginning of the rainy season – we will have enough water. Well above current levels,” he said.
