Mozambique has requested Russia support in improving the diagnosis and treatment of breast and uterine cancers in Mozambique.
The request was made on Wednesday by First Lady Isaura Nyusi, who is part of the presidential delegation on an official visit to Russia.
In this context, Isaura Nyusi visited the Moscow Oncology Research Institute to experience cancer prevention and control work in Russia.
The First Lady of the Republic said that Mozambique had already taken important steps towards cancer screening and treatment, but acknowledged that much remained to be done to ensure that screening and treatment were available countrywide.
A team from the Office of the First Lady and the Ministry of Health will work with the Moscow Oncology Research Institute to define cooperation mechanisms and the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding.
This Institute has state-of-the-art technology for the screening and treatment of various cancers and can eliminate tumours using only radiotherapy, without any surgical intervention.
Fertility treatment is another of the First Lady’s interests, and Russian support is provided to this end, too.
Today (Thursday), First Lady Isaura Nyusi is visiting a hospice for the terminally ill.
