Mozambican government to introduce law on religious freedom

Joaquim Veríssimo, Minister of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs of Mozambique, is advocating a law on religious freedom to regulate the sector, in view of concerns about practices in certain churches.

“We are very concerned about images, audios and videos circulating on social networks documenting practices in some religious denominations,” Veríssimo is quoted by Notícias as saying.

Videos and audios of leaders of religious sects allegedly performing miracles have also circulated on social networks, triggering repudiation from various social circles in the country.

Minister Veríssimo said that the government and churches should reflect on practices which go beyond the moral vocation of religion.

The law on religious freedom that the Mozambican executive will submit to the Assembly of the Republic will include a code of conduct, Veríssimo added, and would control the spread of unregistered churches.

Despite concern over practices in some churches, the Minister acknowledged the importance of religion in the social and moral domains.

“Your contributions inspired the legal reforms that have allowed us to consolidate and adapt our legal system, making it increasingly fair, accessible to all, with a focus on citizens’ fundamental rights, duties and freedoms,” he said.

I think it is not good, for Govt to meddle in treligious affairs. I have not seen any objection to having witchcrafters in hospitals? I don’t see them interfere & check up mosque activity! Why then if christian, now we are having any meddling? We refuse to be treated as children, & be told what to believe or not, though I myself am aware of stuff going on, which has nothing to do with Bible , but people’s choices must be respected, even when they act like fools. China involvement anywhere always come with stiff prices. Ex stealing of intellectual property, Chinese tech , which is monitored by China govt , as mandatory to their tech companies. Another example is Zambia mine which was sold to China to pay over 20yrs(?) after 6 months they had made enough PROFIT to pay full debt. Did they do it? Of course not!
