A fire on Wednesday night reduced part of the Zambézia Provincial House of Culture to ashes, causing extensive material damage.
The fire, which started at around 8:00 p.m., destroyed musical instruments, the stage, computer equipment and motorcycles, among other things, but resulted in no injury or loss of life.
Grief, sadness and anguish are the words used by artists to describe the level of destruction caused by the fire whose causes have not yet been established, although the electrical panel was left completely destroyed.
“The Mozambican culture is in mourning, there were many works kept here. It gives you a feeling of sadness and anguish to look at the ‘Casa da Cultura’ in the state it is in. This is part of the cultural heritage of Mozambique and especially of Zambézia,” said Zambezian art makers.
