Police have detained five individuals in Chimoio for counterfeiting, seizing three two hundred meticais bills and equipment used in the counterfeiting process.
Police say the counterfeiting took place in a printing workshop using computer equipment, but the scheme was discovered when one individual went to an shop to buy alcoholic drink with one of the counterfeit notes and was reported to the police by the shopkeeper.
In fact, this is not the first time that this individual has been arrested, tried and convicted for the same crime.
And because Jay-Z, an employee at the printers, is still on the run, the business owner has also been jailed until the counterfeiter is found and held accountable, O País reports.
Faced with the burgeoning amount of counterfeit currency circulating in the province, the police are calling on citizens to exercise vigilance and report any suspicion of counterfeit money received during transactions.
