The European Union (EU) is ready to assist Mozambique in combating and discovering the causes of the armed attacks in Cabo Delgado, the EU ambassador, António Sanchez, has said.
Ambassador Sanchez reiterated his concern over the now more than a year that the population has been terrorised by the group.
“The EU is available to help Mozambique combat the armed group that has been carrying out terror acts in Cabo Delgado,” he said.
The ambassador was speaking during a recent visit to the province, where he held a meeting with Governor Julio Parruque. The provincial government did not officially seek help combatting the armed attacks, but called for funding for provincial development projects.
The armed attacks in Cabo Delgado began in October last year, but so far the true identity of the perpetrators and their reasons for murdering people and attacking state institutions has not been convincingly established.
