The Matola District Judicial Court has rejected the appeal lodged by the MDM against the results of the October 10 municipal elections. The Judge of the case alleges failure to comply with deadlines and failure to file a complaint at the voting tables where the irregularities occurred, O País reports.
The party does not agree with the ruling and has today submitted a new appeal to request that the case be brought to the Constitutional Council.
The MDM Head of List for Matola city Silvério Ronguane disqualifies the arguments of the judge, alleging misinterpretation of the law. “The judge says that we did not file the appeal within 48 hours, but the results were announced on a Saturday. Now, how could this be done if the court does not work on weekends? What if it had been on a Friday?”
“Regarding the allegation of non-reporting of irregularities at polling stations, we also understand that it does not make sense because what is at the centre of this appeal is the existence of three result sheets [‘editais’], which we attach,”explained Ronguane.
