Mozambique: Only Renamo Congress can sack Momade

This is the fourth time Venancio Mondlane has complained that he has been prevented by the Police of the Republic of Mozambique from doing his political work.
The head of Renamo’s list, recently excluded from the electoral race by the National Electoral Commission for having resigned his previous mandate in the Municipal Assembly, has no doubt that partisan motivations are behind this obstruction.
“I have never seen any other party go through the same situation, especially the ruling party, which has never been stopped,” Renamo’s head of list said, adding that “we are moving from a bankrupt country to a failed country”.
By acting in this way, the country was regressing with regard to freedom of the press and freedom to carry out political activity, Mondlane said.
“It is truly sad that a man who is the guardian of law and order does not even know the law that sustains his attitude. He says he does not know the law, and that he only takes orders. We are in a country where orders to withdraw the fundamental rights of a citizen can be given,” Mondlane said.
Renamo has already submitted an appeal to the National Elections Commission following the exclusion of Mondlane as its head of list for Maputo.
