Armindo Daniel Tiago served as the Minister of Health of the Republic of Mozambique from June 2022 to January 2025. Prior to his appointment to the position of Minister of Health, he was Vice-Rector of the Eduardo Mondlane University for the Administration and Resources Area.
He holds a PhD in Cardiovascular Disease Genetics (2003), from the University of Witwatersrand, Republic of South Africa; Degree in Medicine (1993), by Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM); and Specialist Doctor in Endocrinology (2009), from Maputo Central Hospital, with an internship at Hospital Inkosi Albert Lithuli, Durban, Republic of South Africa. His areas of interest in health research includes, malaria, diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure and medical education. In these areas, he is the author or co-author of several scientific articles and didactic and normative manuals. In the same areas, he organized and participated in several national and international scientific events. He was Director of the Office of Medical Education (2012-2015), due to his duties, Coordinator of Academic Quality and Deputy Director for Teaching at the Faculty of Medicine of UEM.
He is a member of socio-professional organizations, such as the Medical Association of Mozambique; Academy of Sciences of Mozambique; and Order of Doctors of Mozambique.
He also assumes the Presidency of the Mozambican Association of Diabetics (AMODIA) and, through it, is a Member of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and President of the Malaria Technical Advisory Committee. He was a non-executive member of the National Council for the Evaluation of the Quality of Higher Education (CNAQ) and of the installation commissions of the University of Lúrio and Ordem dos Médicos de Moçambique, having also been a member of the Academic Council of UEM (2012-2017), as a representative of the Medical Sciences area.
